Though Peter Jackson's movie trilogy recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, and Amazon preparing to broadcast its new Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power TV show later this year, J.R.R. Tolkien's epic fantasy world remains as evocative and important in 2022 as it has always been. To that list, we can now add the release of the new edition of Free League's award-winning tabletop RPG, The One Ring.
The 2nd edition of The One Ring tabletop RPG, which will be released on March 22, was designed by Francesco Nepitello and Marco Maggi and given to us by the respected publisher behind Alien: The Roleplaying Game and Tales From the Loop. Not only was The One Ring one of the most successful tabletop roleplaying games to ever hit Kickstarter last year (it earned well over an eye-watering $2 million), but it was also highly received by critics.
The One Ring RPG, which takes place shortly after Bilbo Baggins' quest in The Hobbit and just before the events of The Lord of the Rings, puts players in the shoes of famous characters from J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy world, such as Frodo's father, Drogo Baggins, or Merry's grandfather, Rory Brandybuck.
In fact, players will begin on a quest to collect clues and unravel the mystery surrounding the Dark Lord and will have the opportunity to play a crucial role in the war against Sauron and his sinister ambitions.
