Battlefield 2042 upcoming maps size will be smaller than before. DICE gives an overview of several map-related concerns in Battlefield 2042, promising that future maps would be smaller in size.

Battlefield 2042 is one of the most divisive games in history. It was probably the most anticipated game of 2021, but design decisions including several other difficulties blew everyone away. Fans had highlighted these flaws during the Battlefield 2042 test, and many believed that their concerns had not been addressed when the game was released in an unfinished manner.

One of the most enjoyable features of Battlefield 2042 was its massive 128-player capacity on PC and current-gen consoles. However, it also resulted in a lot of empty areas, since users' concerns about the overly big maps were high on the list. DICE previously stated that it will use bots to populate these large lobbies, but this will only help in limited ways. DICE has now published a new blog post that covers the map size, as well as several other concerns.

The detailed post goes over multiple key points about maps in Battlefield 2042, with a specific section dedicated to future maps. DICE understands that larger maps do not always lead to more freedom or pleasure, and fans should expect future maps to be smaller in scope than most of the current ones. When playing with 128 total players, the developer is also considering reducing the number of Sectors and Capture Points. The post goes on to say that DICE is considering adjusting the design of the maps from square to the rectangle in order to encourage players to go forward instead of trying to circle around their opponents.

DICE will also investigate the player count in other game types, mentioning Battlefield 2042's Breakthrough mode as an example. Finally, the developer is balancing the amount and types of vehicles available on a map. DICE has provided a lot of extra info in the article, which covers topics like traversal, intensity, and cover in Battlefield 2042. It has also released photos of fresh prototype layouts for the game types Conquest and Breakthrough.

Although reportedly strong sales on launch, the Battlefield 2042 player base on Steam is decreasing as fans gravitate toward previous games in the series. Despite the fact that both games were released within a week of each other, EA has denied that Halo Infinite was to blame for Battlefield 2042's poor response. Halo Infinite multiplayer was released as a free-to-play title on November 15, just days before Battlefield 2042, and many users appreciated its gameplay. Granted, Halo Infinite has flaws, but its overall reception is quite different from Battlefield 2042.

Battlefield 2042 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
