One of the pregnant women injured in an attack on a maternity hospital in Mariupol died along with her unborn child.

The photo showed her on a stretcher after the air raid in Mariupol last Wednesday, which killed at least three other people.

After the hospital where she was supposed to give birth was bombed, she was moved to another hospital.

Asya Dolina, a journalist with Voice of America, posted on Facebook about a woman's death. Photographer Evgeny Maloletka, who shot a photo with the girl, and the Associated Press both verified the information, referring to local surgeon Timur Chumarin.

According to the Associated Press, a pregnant woman was shifted to another hospital following the shelling of the maternity facility. Chumarin told Reuters that her pelvis had been crushed and her hip had been severed. A cesarean section was performed, but the kid "showed no signs of life." After then, doctors tried to rescue the woman for half an hour, but she could not be saved.

The deceased's name is not mentioned. The physicians did not have time to recognize him before the family came for the remains in the turmoil that followed the shelling, according to the agency.

Earlier, it was claimed that three people were killed after a rocket hit the Mariupol maternity hospital, including one kid. Another 17 people were hurt. Ukraine blamed Russia for the bombing.

During a press conference on March 10, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the maternity clinic in Mariupol was a "base for extremists," claiming that there were no patients or employees there.

A few hours after Lavrov's comments, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that the Russian army did not attack a hospital in Mariupol and that "absolutely no duties to hit targets on the ground, Russian aircraft in the Mariupol area did not accomplish." The airstrike was described as a "well-organized provocation" by Russia's defense ministry.

Yevgeny Maloletka, the author of images depicting the Russian army bombing a maternity facility in Mariupol, told The Insider that, according to Russian Foreign Ministry statements, there were ordinary patients in the hospital, not a battalion of militants.
