Russia is thought to be deploying generals to the front lines of its conflict in Ukraine in order to boost army morale.

Western officials claim that Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine has "majorly stalled on all fronts," with Russia making "very little progress" and experiencing massive losses.

The Russian President is claimed to be upset by the lack of success, as his troops have failed to conquer any significant cities despite massive shelling.

According to Ukrainian sources, a fourth Russian general was killed during the battle in Mariupol on Thursday.

"We believe that one of the reasons a number of generals appear to have been slain is because things are going so badly that they need to go closer to the front to lead their troops... to provide more supervision," one Western diplomat said.

"As a result, they're moving forward and becoming more vulnerable to enemy action."

In response to a question about the Russian Air Force's role and vulnerability to Ukrainian countermeasures, he said, "I think we're seeing a reasonable amount of evidence of very, very low morale among the Russian forces, which may well be playing into the... necessity of senior officers going to the front."

Major Generals Andrei Sukhovetsky, Vitaly Gerasimov, and Andrei Kolesnikov were reportedly reported dead in separate incidents by Ukrainian officials.

Russia has only acknowledged the first, Major General Andrei Sukhovetsky.

Analysts believe that roughly 20 Russian generals are leading Russian activities in Ukraine, according to some sources.

According to a source close to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a special squad has been formed to track down senior Russian officers, while other theories say that their presence near the most intense fighting is intended to improve troops' morale.

Ukraine's State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection (SSSCIP) said 14,000 Russian troops have died in the battle as of Thursday morning.

Russia's onslaught in Ukraine continues. On Wednesday, a theatre in the besieged city of Mariupol, where hundreds of people were seeking refuge, was attacked, and it is estimated that 80 percent of the city's residential property has been destroyed.

Despite the ongoing offensive, British military analysts say Russia is being compelled to divert "huge numbers" of troops to defend its supply lines.

The Ministry of Defence stated in its most recent intelligence briefing: "On almost every front, Russia's invasion of Ukraine has come to a halt.

"In recent days, Russian forces have made a little advance on land, sea, or air, and they continue to suffer enormous losses.

"Ukrainian opposition remains steadfast and well-coordinated. The vast bulk of Ukrainian territory remains in Ukrainian control, including all major cities."
