Elon Musk has proposed turning Twitter's San Francisco headquarters into a homeless shelter, claiming that "no one shows up anyway" at the office.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO, who recently became Twitter's largest shareholder, polled his Twitter followers on the topic on Sunday.

An overwhelming majority of users voted in favor of repurposing Twitter's HQ as Musk recommended six hours after Musk released the poll: "Y" received 91 percent of the 912,867 votes submitted.

Musk appeared to be questioning Twitter's policy on remote employment. Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey assured staff in the early months of the COVID-19 epidemic that they may work from home indefinitely, even after the pandemic was over.

San Francisco, a rich city with a slew of well-known tech companies, has a sizable homeless population. San Francisco's streets were expected to have 5,200 unsheltered homeless individuals in 2020.

Musk tweeted another poll on Twitter's HQ just hours after the first one, this time asking his followers if they wanted to "remove the w in twitter." "Yes" or "Of course" were the only options in the poll.

Musk became the company's largest shareholder last week after amassing a 9.2 percent stake in the corporation. Musk has been named to Twitter's board of directors, Twitter announced later.

Musk polls his fans on a regular basis, sometimes asking about serious topics and other times not. He's been asking his followers if they believe Twitter "rigorously adheres" to free speech and if they'd welcome the ability to modify their tweets in recent weeks.

Musk shared a selfie of himself smoking a joint on Thursday, captioning it, "Twitter's next board meeting is going to be lit."
