Following the Russian invasion, Ukraine has regained control of the "entire Kyiv region," according to the deputy military minister.

Ukrainian forces have retaken control of the "entire Kyiv region," according to Ukraine's Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar.

According to Reuters, Malyar declared in a Facebook post that "the full Kyiv region has been liberated from the invader."

The Ukrainian capital has been under assault for weeks by Russian forces determined to seize the city.

Is Kyiv under Ukrainian control again?

Ukrainian soldiers have retaken control of the "Whole Kyiv region," according to the deputy defense minister. It comes after a weeks-long offensive by Russian forces intent on taking Kyiv.

Russia's Defense Ministry declared last week that it would reduce its attacks on Kyiv as part of ongoing peace discussions between the two countries. According to one Ukrainian MP, the move was made to "save face," and the Russian military was effectively "kicked" out of the city, raising questions about whether the Kremlin truly wants peace.

Russia's statements were also viewed with suspicion by US leaders, who stated that the threat to Kyiv may not be gone.

Is the Pentagon repositioning itself in Ukraine?

"We believe this is a repositioning, not a true withdrawal," Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said. "We should all be prepared to watch for a big offensive on other areas of Ukraine."

A top Ukrainian official accused Russian troops of kidnapping Ukrainian children and using them as human shields as they retreated from Kyiv on Friday.

Are Russian troops leaving mines near Ukrainian homes as they retreat?

According to the Associated Press, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned on Saturday that retreating Russian troops were leaving explosives and "even the bodies of those dead" around Ukrainian homes, creating a "catastrophic" situation for residents.

"Even in the territories that we are retaking after the war, it is still not possible to return to regular life," Zelenskyy added. "We need to wait until our territory is demined until we can tell you that there will be no additional shelling," says the reporter.
