Ukraine is in talks with Russian invaders about exchanging 169 National Guard servicemen captured at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant.

According to Ukrainian Interior Minister Denys Monastyrsky, as reported by the Interior Ministry's press service.

"Chornobyl is a tragic chapter in our country's history. Unfortunately, we must report that 169 National Guard service members were taken prisoner there. As far as we know, some of them are currently in Belarus, while others are in Russia "He stated.

Monastyrsky clarified that negotiations on their exchange are currently underway, but that it will be possible only after the active phase of hostilities has ended.

Russian invaders kidnapped Ukrainian National Guard soldiers on March 31, as they tried to flee the Chornobyl nuclear power plant's territory. They have been imprisoned at the plant since the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
