Battlefield 2042's most recent significant map update is now available, with major changes made to Orbital, one of the game's most noticeable maps.

The most recent Battlefield 2042 update was released by EA Dice, and it makes some much-needed improvements to the Orbital map of the multiplayer game. These improvements include significant asset reworks and adjustments to a few crucial locations that will enhance the action. The option to create and host persistent servers is also included in the update, which is now available across all platforms. This is a useful addition for those who prefer to stick with the same team of teammates over time.

The new Orbital features new cover, improved gameplay, and visual upgrades to make different areas of the map stand out more from one another, similar to previous map updates. Several flags on the map have been added to or moved in the Conquest game mode. The Crawlerway and the Launch Pad are now covered in trash, wrecked tanks, and craters, giving the map a more war-torn appearance.

The update's other significant improvement, besides a number of bug fixes and minor tweaks, is persistent servers for Battlefield Portal. When there were no players online, a server would previously vanish from the server listings. With the ability to enable a persistent server that will remain online for up to a week even without any active players, that will now change. The Battlefield 2042 community has requested persistent servers, according to developer DICE, and having them will "enable communities to stay together across their favorite servers, without needing to wait for the server owner to come online and activate the server," according to the patch notes.

Owners of the premium battle pass for the game will be able to access persistent servers starting today, with a cap of one active server per account. After the last active player activity, servers will continue to function for seven days.

The ACW-R from Battlefield 3 as well as the AKS-74u and MP412 REX from Bad Company 2 and BF3 are new vault weapons included in this update. Additionally, there is the customary lengthy list of bug fixes, which are detailed in the update's complete patch notes.

When Battlefield 2042 first came out almost a year ago, both critics and players noticed the game's numerous bugs and online problems. Due to the game's poor reception, DICE decided to postpone the first season of content until the summer of 2022. Instead, they used the time after Battlefield 2042's release to stabilize and enhance the core experience.

Hazard Zone, one of Battlefield 2042's three experiences at launch, is still technically playable, but developer support for it was cut off back in May as the team shifted its attention to the modes that players were "engaging most with." In an effort to make Breakthrough a more tactical and orderly experience, DICE also eliminated the 128-player version in favor of the 64-player version. Recently, DICE has worked to deliver updates for many of the game's core maps, and soon, the contentious Specialists will see significant changes.
