Assassin's Creed Origins is an action-adventure video game released in 2017 by Ubisoft. It is the eleventh major installment in the Assassin's Creed series and the sequel to 2015's Assassin's Creed Syndicate. Mainly it is an Ancient Egypt story, near the end of the Ptolemaic period (49–43 BC)and follows a Medjay named Bayek of Siwa and his wife Aya as they uncover the early history of the thousand-year conflict between the Invisible Ones, forerunners of the Assassin Brotherhood, who fight for peace by supporting liberty, and The Order of the Ancients, forerunners of the Templar Order, who truly desire peace through the forced imposition of order.
In 2015, the Assassin's Creed series has been criticized for becoming boring, requiring a new branding of the franchise. Assassin's Creed: origins marks a fresh start for the franchise by going back to the very beginning of the Order of Assassins in Ancient Egypt, thanks to Ubisoft giving the development team more time and delaying annual releases for once. Not only is Ancient Egypt a fresh and new setting for the series to follow, but Ubisoft has also altered the gameplay—to the point where some devoted fans argue that this game is no longer "Assassin's Creed."
The freerunning and stealth mechanics remain mostly the same as before, with a few modifications and improvements. Combat has been completely redesigned, distancing from a simple timing-and-parry animation and toward something more akin to God of War or Dark Souls. RPG elements were also introduced, with protagonist Bayek receiving experience points that can be used to unlock a variety of new skills as the game progressed. The origin is a fantastic spot for new players to jump into the current era of Assassin's Creed, as it is a borderline soft reboot of the entire series with brand-new gameplay features and a new arc in the modern-day bits.
