With the announcement of the newest Super Smash Bros. DLC fighter and the arrival of the new Nintendo Switch OLED model only in the next week, October is building up to be an exciting month for Nintendo fans. While the new Switch has been on display in Japan, many who have had the opportunity to view it have complimented the improved screen and other improvements. However, just before the console's introduction, rumors surfaced claiming that the OLED was supposed to include one major feature: 4K capability.

There had been a lot of talk regarding the possibility of a Nintendo Switch "Pro" model. With the introduction of the OLED model and Nintendo's declaration that there will be no further Switch versions beyond the one coming out this year, those expectations were swiftly shattered. Many enthusiasts were disappointed that the OLED model's improved screen and wired connection compatibility did not enable 4K graphics.

According to a report, a few employees from development studios have disclosed anonymously that their business has a Nintendo dev kit that has 4K support for the Switch. They were also encouraged to try to focus on developing games that particularly utilized the technological improvement once they received the device, as 4K is a major market right now. According to the story, these developers were taken aback when the model was released without support for the precise item they had been advised to concentrate on.

According to individuals familiar with Nintendo's hardware planning, the functionality was removed owing to hardware supply chain limitations on Nvidia's end as a result of the pandemic. The console was rumored to feature an Nvidia 4K processor, but it was unable to be delivered in time, thus the OLED Switch was forced to do without it.

However, there is still hope for a 4K Switch. The companies in possession of the dev kits have stated that they expect to be able to release the games they've been working on by the end of next year, which either means they'll have enough time to work back on the features they've introduced, or Nintendo and Nvidia believe they'll be able to produce a true 4K Switch pro by then.

When it comes to acquiring a newer Switch model, this is something fans should keep an eye on. While it appears like releasing a 4K console next year may be hazardous in terms of OLED sales, Nintendo has done it before. Only time will tell if the Nintendo Switch Pro's aspirations are going to come true in full.

On October 8th, 2021, the Nintendo Switch OLED model will be released.
