Microsoft is releasing a new update that adds two Xbox Series X/S controller functions to last-generation Xbox One controllers.

According to the official Xbox Wire blog, the new update will bring Dynamic Latency Input and Bluetooth Low Energy to earlier controllers, which are already included in Series X/S controllers.

The update, which is currently available to Xbox Insiders on the Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha levels, adds Bluetooth connectivity to Xbox One controllers, Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, and Xbox Adaptive Controllers.

Dynamic Latency Input (DLI) more effectively transfers controller inputs to the Xbox Series X/S, minimizing input latency (the time between pressing a button and seeing the result on screen).

Last-generation Xbox One controllers send controller inputs to the console every 8ms, regardless of when games required the input data, resulting in up to 7ms of additional latency when pushing a button soon after that window.

DLI mitigates this by having the controller deliver the most recent input just before the game requests it, therefore reducing latency.

Meanwhile, Bluetooth Low Energy improves interoperability with non-Xbox devices and makes it easier for gamers to link their controller with something other than an Xbox One or Series X/S.

Players will be able to use their controller wirelessly on Windows 10 PCs, iOS 15+, and Android smartphones that support Bluetooth Low Energy.

The controller will remember one Xbox device and one Bluetooth device, and the user may easily swap between them by double-tapping the pair button.

In April, Apple released iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5, which included support for the Series X and S controllers. Its gadgets now accept Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 controllers.
