Horror Game Vampyr Receives a Surprising Next-Generation Update

It's almost Halloween, and the video game industry appears to be getting into the spirit. Free horror games are available on a variety of platforms, as well as numerous discounts on other games in the genre. Vampyr, the gothic horror game, has received an official PS5 and Xbox Series X update, so those who are taking it up or returning to it will have even more reason to be enthusiastic.

The new update, which was announced on Twitter, boosts the Vampyr's resolution to 1440p at 60 frames per second. However, there are a few restrictions. While the Xbox Series S version of the game supports 1440p, it only runs at 30 frames per second. Additionally, while the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro are supported, both versions will only run at 30 frames per second. The Xbox One X, on the other hand, only has a 1296p resolution rather than 1440p.

The 1440p update should be a lovely fresh coat of paint for the game, even if it isn't nearly as sharp as 4K. Furthermore, the move to 60 frames per second will have a significant influence on gameplay, especially given Vampyr's hack-and-slash combat.

Although next-gen updates are becoming more prevalent, Vampyr comes as a bit of a shock. The game has been out for a few years, and while it was well-received when it first came out, the current update feels a touch out of the left field. That isn't always a bad thing, as free performance updates are always a plus.

According to a follow-up tweet, the update has been issued to all platforms, so anyone interested in the game can try it out right now. Vampyr is widely regarded as one of the best action-horror games of recent years, as it allows players to pick and choose which characters to drain off blood for strength and sculpt their own storyline.

The changes coincide with the launch of a PS5 and Xbox Series X update for Dying Light. While no exact date has been given for the update, it does represent the second horror game to receive an update in time for Halloween, which has set a strong tone for lovers of the genre this year. There's also Dark Pictures: House of Ashes out today, so horror aficionados won't be short on eerie entertainment.

Vampyr is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox One X.
