Nintendo made a surprise reference to the renowned Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon on Twitter, stunning those unfamiliar with the Zelda franchise and delighting those infatuated with the game's jokes. The CD-i games are a frequently ignored section of Zelda history that rarely receives official recognition in any form, with the games being deemed non-canon.

Despite not being explicitly Nintendo games, Zelda: The Faces of Evil and Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon are two of the CD-i games that feature Nintendo characters. While the games are based on the Zelda series, they are not regarded as part of the narrative. They were developed by Animation Magic and released by Philips Interactive Media. The games were critically panned, owing to their poor quality and questionable dialogue, and are now best known for their appearance in "YouTube poops" meme videos. Cutscenes and dialogue are very well features of the CD-i games, and they've created a firm place in YouTube's early history that continues to this day. Morshu, the NPC who runs the Zelda CD-i shop, is renowned for how he requests Link for rupees.

Due to the fact that Nintendo rarely acknowledges CD-i titles, Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon was mentioned in a Twitter poll run by the Nintendo of America account. "Can you wait to blast some Dodongos?" fans were asked in a series of poll questions for the next Nintendo Power podcast. What appears to be a basic question regarding one of the game's monster kinds is really a remark from Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon said by Link. Fans were ecstatic with the reference, and they responded with memes and responses, including graphics from JimmyDPooper and TerranceHarken. At the time of writing, "No" is topping the survey with 58 percent of the vote.

The Legend of Zelda series is not just one of Nintendo's most popular, but also one of its longest-running. There are innumerable fans who have missed the early days of the brand, with releases such as the CD-i games being obscure for many. With titles stretching from the Nintendo Entertainment System to the Nintendo Switch, there are countless fans who have missed the earlier days of the franchise. Some fans are getting their first taste of Link's earlier adventures thanks to the recent release of the Zelda Game & Watch, which includes classic Zelda games such as The Legend of Zelda and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link for the NES, as well as The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening for the original Game Boy.

Those hoping for an announcement of a CD-i Zelda game will be disappointed, as this is unlikely to be the case. While it's possible that Nintendo plans to bring back some of its older games in some manner, like with the Zelda Game & Watch, the CD-i games are usually left in Nintendo's past owing to poor reception, and as non-first-party titles, they're likely to stay there. In the absence of any official title confirmation, the business is currently hard at work on the planned sequel to Breath of the Wild, currently known as Breath of the Wild 2. The game is scheduled for release in 2022, so fans won't have to wait long to learn more about it.
