Sony appears to be feeling left out, with Xbox Game Pass becoming one of the trendiest topics in gaming over the previous few months. The company behind the famous PlayStation console series is also working on its own subscription program likely related to Xbox Game Pass.

According to Bloomberg, Sony is preparing to launch an Xbox Game Pass-style membership service. PlayStation Plus which is necessary for the bulk of online multiplayer games and PlayStation Now which offers a catalog of titles to download or stream are already available from the firm, and they will apparently be combined in this new platform. Sony is most likely to maintain the PlayStation Plus name.

According to the sources, who asked not to be identified because they weren't authorized to speak to the press about the plans, a brand-new service code-named Spartacus will allow PlayStation owners to pay a monthly membership for access to a portfolio of present and vintage titles. It would contain existing PlayStation Plus benefits, while another would have a catalog of PS4 and "possibly" PS5 games, and a third would include "longer trials, game streaming, and a library of old PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP games." The Service will most likely be accessible on the PlayStation 4, The PlayStation 4, which has sold over 116 million units, and its elusive successor, the PlayStation 5, which was released over a year ago but is still hard to come by due to supply chain issues.

Spartacus, the new service, would merge the two subscriptions into one. Spartacus, on the other hand, is said to offer three separate service tiers. The first and most basic tier would provide the same features as PlayStation Plus.

The second tier would include a library of PlayStation 4 games, while the third tier would have all classic titles as well as game streaming. Xbox Game Pass has made a lot of noise in the gaming world over the last few months. In the meantime, PlayStation's memberships have mostly remained unnoticed.

But, following the Microsoft-Sony contract signed in 2019, it's unclear whether Spartacus would operate on Microsoft Azure; if it does, Sony's service will be running on the same infrastructure as its competitor.

The newest Spartacus service appears to be on par with Microsoft's Game Pass Ultimate subscription, which allows users to play online multiplayer, access a large library of Microsoft and third-party titles, and stream games from the cloud. Sony also looks to be following Microsoft's lead in offering several service tiers - for example, only the $15 per month Game Pass Ultimate plan includes cloud gaming.

Bundling these experiences and providing a variety of subscription alternatives for gamers might be a wonderful strategy for Sony to increase the popularity of its own subscriptions.

We'll have to wait and see for the time being. According to Bloomberg, Sony will not debut its new service until at least Spring of next year, according to anonymous sources.

Day-one access to Microsoft's first-party titles is one of the primary benefits of Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate, but it may not be accessible with Spartacus.
