Square Enix has released Wanderer of the Rift, the second DLC for Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, which includes new missions, mechanics, and more.
Square Enix confirmed Wednesday that Wanderer of the Rift, the latest DLC for Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, is now available for download. This is the second of three planned Final Fantasy Origin DLCs announced by Team Ninja earlier this year.
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin was released in March to commemorate the series' 35th anniversary. The Wanderer of the Rift expansion picks up where the Trials of the Dragon King DLC left off, with the protagonists facing off against universe-hopping villain Gilgamesh.
Wanderer of the Rift is only available as part of the Final Fantasy Origin season pass, which costs $29.99. The Digital Deluxe Edition of the game, which costs $89.99, provides slightly better value for money than upgrading from the Standard Edition, as the former includes a digital art book and an abridged soundtrack. Last week, Square Enix revealed the Wanderer of the Rift DLC content, confirming that the expansion will include new story missions, an enemy-slowing mechanic called Dimension Bringer, one additional job, and an extra difficulty level, among other things.
The new Final Fantasy Origin missions are still locked behind the difficult Chaos difficulty because the Wanderers of the Rift story picks up where Trials of the Dragon King left off. That mode, however, is no longer the most difficult in the game, as the latest expansion also includes the Gilgamesh difficulty level, which nets even higher rewards for those who survive it. Simply completing the story missions, regardless of difficulty, will eventually unlock a new Blue Mage job that specializes in mimicking enemy skills and abilities.
Finally, the recently released DLC includes Monster Bells, a set of items that allows players to bond with monsters through various interactions such as conversations and feeding, which appear to combine mechanics from Shin Megami Tensei and Pokemon games. To obtain a Monster Bell, you must first locate its summonstone and then complete a special event with a specific creature.
Square Enix has only one more DLC for Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin to release after the release of Wanderers of the Rift today. There's no word on what the Different Future expansion will entail, but based on Team Ninja's track record, the final piece of seasonal content for the game will most likely be released in the first quarter of 2023.
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
