Sony is extending PlayStation Plus subscriptions for select PlayStation 4 and 5 owners in order to spread the holiday cheer.

PS4 and PS5 users who do not have a PlayStation Plus subscription are unable to play games online or claim the monthly free PS Plus games. To spread holiday cheer, it appears like Sony has granted some PS Plus subscribers whose subscriptions are about to expire a surprise extension, allowing them to continue using the service for a little longer.
It's was spotted out by Reddit user Sikayduh, who got a ten-day extension on their PlayStation Plus subscription, which was due to expire on December 25. PlayStation wishes users a "fun-filled holiday season," according to the accompanying email. It's unknown how many PlayStation Plus subscription extensions Sony handed out, but it appears that they were only addressed to people whose subscriptions were about to expire around the holidays.
When a PlayStation Plus subscription expires, the user loses more than simply the ability to play games online.
