Street Fighter 6 has been officially revealed by Capcom

Capcom makes an official announcement about street fighter 6.

Following the conclusion of a week-long teasing campaign that coincided with Capcom's official esports tournament, the company has formally announced Street Fighter 6. This summer, we'll learn more about the next installment.

"Fighter's, be prepared: the future of fighting games is here," Capcom says. Today, at the Capcom Pro Tour 2021 Season Final, we give you a glimpse of what's new to come: Street Fighter 6 is the sixth installment of the Street Fighter series.

"We know you're eager for more information (and we're ready to provide it to you), but we'll have to keep you guessing for a bit longer. More Street Fighter 6 news will be released in the summer of 2022."

The publisher says it's working on the fighting sequel "with the goal of pushing the fighting game genre to a new level in the realm of esports while also employing [our] cutting-edge development technologies to provide an engaging game experience," according to the statement.

There's no word yet on which platforms the game will be released on. The first Street Fighter 6 trailer can be seen below:

Capcom also launched Capcom Fighting Collection on Monday, a ten-game collection of classic Darkstalkers and Vampire Savior games, some of which have never been released in the west.

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Street Fighter series. Although the first Street Fighter was published in arcades in August 1987, it was Street Fighter II, released in 1991, that revolutionized the one-on-one fighting game genre and established many of its rules for the future.

Street Fighter V, the most recent entry in the series, was released in 2016 in arcades and on PS4 and PC. In 2017, it was renamed Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, and in 2020, it was renamed Street Fighter V: Champion Edition.

Capcom has continued to update Street Fighter V with five different seasons of content, reaching over 2000 different DLC items.
