Indie game store itch.io stated NFTs as a scam.

In a furious statement published on its social media platforms, indie gaming marketplace itchi.io made its views on non-fungible tokens (NFTs) clear, declaring them a "scam."

In response to the questions about its views on NFTs, the company published a statement on Twitter on Sunday.

"NFTs are a scam," it declared. "We request that you kindly re-evaluate your life choices if you believe they are really beneficial for anything other than the exploitation of creators, financial scams, and the ruin of the world."

"Fuck any company that claims to help creators but yet promotes NFTs in any form." They are only concerned with their personal profit and the possibility of becoming wealthy at the expense of others. Especially in light of the readily available discourse on the issues with NFTs." "How do you manage to be so dense?

NFTs are non-transferable, one-of-a-kind data units that are maintained on a blockchain (a type of digital ledger) that allow users to own, buy, and sell digital objects such as in-game items or artwork.

Many gaming companies, such as Ubisoft and Konami, have already begun selling digital things as NFTs, while others, such as Square Enix, have expressed interest in the technology.

Team17, the creators of Worms, recently announced and then scrapped an NFT project within 24 hours after receiving complaints from fans and partners. GSC Game World, the creators of STALKER 2, went even further, canceling its own NFT intentions an hour after announcing them. Troy Baker, a voice actor who has been in a number of games including The Last of Us and Uncharted, recently dabbled in NFTs before immediately quitting due to criticism.

However, itch.io's remark is just the most recent example of a growing reaction towards NFTs from both gamers and developers.

After receiving public criticism from a number of developer teams whose titles were recently released by the publisher, Team17 rapidly reversed its decision to enter the NFT industry last week.

Companies, on the other hand, have fought criticism of their NFT plans, with one Ubisoft executive recently claiming that players "don't understand it."
