Nintendo is extremely excited about the year 2022,' the company said. It's also been suggested that Zelda is on the right track.

The sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is still scheduled for release in 2022, according to reports.

According to a senior industry source, Nintendo could have a solid software lineup in 2022. IGN CEO Peer Schneider revealed on the IGN Games podcast that he attended The Game Awards 2021 and spoke with "several folks in the business," who reportedly assured him that Breath of the Wild 2 is still on pace for a 2022 release, despite being a no-show at the awards presentation.

"Nintendo appears to be on track to have a strong year next year. So, I wouldn't see the lack of significant announcements [at The Game Awards] as a hint that Breath of the Wild is on hold or that they don't have anything else planned, since it sounds like... Nintendo employees are extremely enthusiastic about 2022"

Nintendo reaffirmed Breath of the Wild 2's hazy 2022 release date, but because nothing is certain these days - not to mention the fact that it skipped this year's Game Awards - fans were naturally concerned that it might be pushed back to 2023. Thankfully, while nothing has been confirmed, it appears that the sequel will be released sometime next year.

Schneider appears to give a more exact release window than 2022 later in the podcast, implying that we'll be playing Breath of the Wild 2 in November of next year. Of course, it's possible that he was making a guess without any first-hand information, or that he simply misspoke, but it's worth noting because it's the first time a trustworthy source has mentioned a probable release month.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Bayonetta 3, Advance Wars 1 + 2 Re-Boot Camp, Splatoon 3, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, Triangle Strategy, and Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak are among the games currently available.

Nintendo recently announced that the Switch's unexpected success has allowed them to invest in new commercial opportunities, including an $880 million expansion of its game production capabilities.

Nintendo plans to invest up to 100 billion yen ($880 million/£654 million) in internal game development and up to 50 billion yen ($440 million/£327 million) in non-game entertainment software assets like movies.

Nintendo announced in November that the Switch had sold 92.87 million copies worldwide. Before the conclusion of the fiscal year in March 2022, the firm anticipates the system will surpass the Wii (101.63 million units) as the business's best-selling console platform.

It also stated that it is still debating the concept and launch date for its next gaming device internally.

According to a New Breath of the Wild 2 rumor, the highly awaited sequel will be released in November 2022.
