The PS Plus free games for February 2022 became highly questionable, and the main reason is the company's past schedule.

On January 26, Sony announced the list for their PS Plus free games for February 2022, as expected. These titles will be available on February 1 and will run until February 28, but they've already gotten a lot of reaction from PS Plus subscribers.

UFC 4 (PS4), Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep: A Wonderlands One-Shot Adventure (PS4), and Planet Coaster: Console Edition  (PS5) are among the PS Plus free games for February 2022. While opinions may differ from person to person, there may be two key reasons for seeming these games so boring.

The PS Plus Free Games in January 2022 were amazing, but February 2022 was a flop.

In the beginning, there are many challenges for any service that vary with the previous month's release. That may have been important, there is never a guarantee that anything will follow. PS Plus free games for January 2022 include Deep Rock Galactic (PS4/PS5), Persona 5 Strikers (PS4), and Dirt 5 (PS4/PS5), which were well-received and extremely popular (and may still be claimed until February's titles release).

The PS Plus Free Games for February 2022 have two of the service's worst titles.

On the other hand, the featured genres are the free February games' weakest point. That's not to say these titles or genres are awful, but some have historically done worse on PS Plus than others as multiplayer games have special bonuses like an instant community.

UFC 4 is an example. That game is mixed material arts fighting game but it's probably already been purchased by UFC fans. Even for small companies like Madden, sports games sell well, but it usually means that those who are interested in sports games have already purchased them. UFC 4 was probably not the best decision to headline February's PS Plus lineup because a significant number of gamers dislike it.

Simulator games, no matter how wonderful they are, are sometimes considered niche. Simulation games have never done well on PlayStation Plus, and many may recall that in May 2020, PS Plus only offered two sim titles: Cities Skylines and Farming Simulator 19. Sony PlayStation Plus subscribers actually petitioned the company to change specific titles, but the company never did. However, it's true that sim games aren't particularly appealing to the majority of PS Plus users.

This leaves Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep as the best game on the service, with the least amount of criticism, but the problem is that it's not even a full game, really. It's a single release of Borderlands 2 DLC from 2013. Sure, that's great for getting people excited about Tiny Tina's Wonderlands in March, but it's also similar to Godfall: Challenger Edition, which was also a controversial PS Plus release because it wasn't a full game. If it is only a portion of a title, it is unlikely to become well.

It's important ... that none of the PS Plus free games for February 2022 are horrible, but none of them are in popular genres. In fact, each title uses genres or aspects of PS Plus games that have caused controversy in the past. At the end of the day, fans who are dissatisfied with February's choices have March to look forward to, but that doesn't mean February doesn't leave a flavor in their tongue.

Every month, PlayStation Subscribers receive a selection of free games.
