Battlefield 2042 Tactical Beanie |
The creators of Battlefield 2042 DICE have announced a new tactical beanie cosmetic item for the specialized Angel, but Battlefield fans aren't impressed.
Since its release in November 2021, Battlefield 2042 has earned a lot of criticism from both new and old fans of the game. The game is losing players due to performance issues and a lack of fundamental features like a functional scoreboard (the addition of a scoreboard in Battlefield 2042 has been delayed until March), and a continued focus on its controversial specialties only serves to fuel public rage. The official Battlefield Twitter account released a new "Tactical Beanie" headgear for Angel on February 10, but fans were not pleased.
The requirements for the new treasure aren't crazy, requiring players to gain 30 kills or assists, disrupt or spot 100 total foes, and earn 15 total intel or wingman ribbons, but restricting it behind gameplay requirements seems bizarre given the item's absolutely uninspiring design. Fans responding to the Twitter thread were bemused, with one common remark concluding that a gray beanie offers little to compensate for the lack of in-game content. This might possibly be a bleak preview of the content that will be released during Battlefield 2042's cosmetics-heavy first season.
Furthermore, many fans consider that the specialized system is at odds with the tone of previous Battlefield games. Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 1942, for example, quietly emphasized the struggles of nameless grunts in large battles. Even Battlefield 2042 creates a sense of despondency in a near future plagued by world wars and environmental disasters. These quick-witted, one-dimensional specialists, on the other hand, resemble characters from a much lighter-hearted game like Team Fortress 2.

I swear this game is progressively getting worse and worse as time goes by. Barely any major improvements with fixes we got, just annoncements of upcoming big fixes. Im afraid empty words is everything we'll be getting from DICE regarding BF 2042. This franchise deserves better.

Moreover, with the first content season of Battlefield 2042 being delayed for several months, fans are ready to see more material added to the game, and a tactical beanie appears to be an incredibly bad method to appease burnt-out players. Unlocking new equipment, skins, and accessories, as well as completing special seasonal tasks, are all part of the allure of many live service games, and a single new item is unlikely to motivate many people to keep playing Battlefield 2042 multiplayer.
Thanks for the beanie! This makes up for no real content ❤️

Recently, a fan-created petition requesting that EA and DICE offer refunds to unsatisfied Battlefield players received over 130,000 signatures, and the game remains one of Valve's Steam platform's most despised games of all time. A quote-unquote "epic" tactical beanie appears to be an unimaginative stopgap in the face of numerous concerns that may not be resolved for some time and an increasingly disgruntled community. DICE has promised a plethora of patches and adjustments in the near future, but it's difficult to predict whether the Battlefield community will return once the game is more reliable.
For PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, Battlefield 2042 is available.
